“SHM is real”: Swedish House Mafia head home to Gothenburg for 2027

The words “It’s all music” repeat through the speakers as the decks become illuminated in Ushuaïa’s world famous open-air club on a Sunday night during Swedish House Mafia’s (SHM) Ibiza residency this summer. Fans of the electronic group are packed together ready for the DJ trio to step onto the stage. A white light illuminates the decks, flashing slowly like a beating heart as the outlines of Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso take the stage. Then the music intensifies. The words “SHM IS REAL” flash up on the huge screen behind the group, stretching from floor to the top of the open-air roof and illuminating the crowd as they erupt into screams as their set begins. From the stage design, to the lighting and creative production, this show marked Swedish House Mafia’s bold new visual identity as part of the group’s 3.0 era. Inspired by brutalism and paired with cinematic production drawing from fashion and architecture, the result is full immersion into the world of SHM for the night.
The thing is, the show didn’t begin at the moment the guys stepped on stage. The Swedish House Mafia show has been designed to feel more like a theatrical performance than what you may expect from a traditional DJ set. Even entering the venue while the support artist, Swedish DJ Bea Sylvan, was playing her set, the energy and grandeur of the venue was palpable. The sound got right into your body, stirring excitement in the crowd as the night built up towards the headline DJs.

“Ibiza has always been a big part of our story and returning to the island to headline Ushuaïa Ibiza feels like coming home,” says Swedish House Mafia.
Since forming in 2008, the group have taken house music from clubs to arenas, without losing the intimate club feeling of community. Standing amongst the crowd in Ibiza reminded everyone there why SHM are one of the most influential acts in electronic music. The almost three-month-long residency, which marked their fifth time headlining Ushuaïa, saw the GRAMMY-nominated hitmakers bring back the iconic club culture they have dominated since the 2000s. Their run of shows this summer were a testament to their commitment to pushing the boundaries of club production and what DJ residencies are known to be. With dancers positioned on platforms throughout the crowd, no matter where you stood, each member of the audience was entirely immersed in the show.

Looking ahead, Swedish House Mafia announced that their only European show dates for 2027 will be four nights at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden. This was announced following their sold-out performance on 29 August in Gothenburg this year, which marked the largest show of their careers so far. As the DJ trio continue to push the boundaries of performance, they build on their already monumental achievements and garner increasing support and love for house music world-wide. And for them, the best way to mark all that they have achieved so far is to return to their home town to pay homage to the country that created them.
