Olivia Dean Takes Over Ronnie Scott’s for Hourglass After Hours

Creativity rarely keeps office hours. The best ideas often arrive late at night, in the quiet moments after a show, after a conversation, after the world has slowed down. It’s this belief that sits at the heart of Hourglass Cosmetics’ After Hours campaign, fronted by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Olivia Dean.

Long celebrated for her distinctive approach to both music and style, Dean has become known for beauty looks that are as recognisable as her sound. As the face of After Hours, she embodies the campaign’s celebration of creativity beyond the confines of the working day. Inspired by the moments when ideas emerge and artistry feels most instinctive, the campaign aligns naturally with Dean’s creative outlook and belief in self-expression through beauty.

In celebration of Hourglass’ latest launch, Phantom Blur Balm – an innovative and smoothing new matte lipstick, Dean and the brand took over Upstairs at Ronnie’s at the legendary Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club for an evening that brought together beauty, music and discovery. Curated by Dean herself, the night featured live performances from two rising British artists, Nectar Woode and Hope Winter, while guests including Aimee Lou Wood, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Tina Kunakey gathered to celebrate the next generation of talent.

Throughout the evening, guests explored Dean’s signature lip edit, featuring Phantom Blur Balm in Enigma, Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm in Desire, and Shape & Sculpt Lip Liner in Tempt, while discovering the newest addition to Hourglass’ iconic Phantom franchise now in a new hydrating matte texture.

Ahead of their performances, we caught up with Woode and Winter to talk beauty rituals, creative inspiration and what getting ready means before stepping on stage.

British-Ghanaian singer-songwriter Nectar Woode is one of the UK’s most exciting new voices. Having supported Dean alongside her BRITs week performance earlier this year, and earned endorsements from Elton John and BBC Radio 1, Woode blends soul, jazz and R&B through richly narrative songwriting. Citing Lauryn Hill as a key influence, Woode’s music combines soulful guitar work and thoughtful lyricism, resulting in a sound with a timeless quality.

Joining her on stage was London-based singer-songwriter Hope Winter, a self-taught musician whose soulful blend of pop, jazz and R&B has earned her a devoted global following since her first single, Small Talk, released in September 2025. Her deeply personal lyrics have a warmth and familiarity that makes them feel universal, finding hope in topics of grief and loss rather than hiding from them.

For Winter, makeup is as much about ritual as it is result. “I think over my early-teen years, when you first start experimenting with makeup, it’s a very bonding, community experience,” she tells Imagine. “I think of getting ready with friends on holiday. That pre-dinner communal experience when everyone’s borrowing each other’s mascara. That’s the part of makeup I really love. It’s also a very calming ritual before going on stage. It helps me take my mind off of anything I might be thinking about before a performance.

For Woode, it’s been a journey of experimentation and growing confidence. “From starting with just a lip liner[…] and now I’ve finally mastered my technique. And it is a ritual, for sure. All my band members are female, so we all get ready together, borrowing each other’s lipstick while doing our vocal warm ups.

Behind every seamless performance look is a formula that can hold up to the demand. “With Hourglass, it’s all about formula and it’s all about innovation,” says Adam Sidwell, Hourglass Director of Artistry – UK & EMEA, “Performance makeup has to do more than just look beautiful. It has to work as hard as the person wearing it. That’s what I love about Hourglass. The formulas combine innovation with exceptional wear, so whether you’re under studio lights, on stage or in front of the camera, the makeup maintains its integrity throughout the day”.

Phantom Blur Balm will also be available in the shade Red 0, launching exclusively on the brand’s website from 10 July. Hourglass’ patent-pending vegan pigment technology, Red 0, was developed as the industry’s first alternative to carmine, the traditional red pigment derived from crushed insects and long used throughout the beauty industry.

Red 0 is the most wearable red, universally flattering and is a product that looks good and does good,” says Sidwell. “Founded in 2021, Red 0 symbolises Hourglass’ commitment to cruelty-free beauty: zero animal byproducts, zero insects harmed.” Combining innovation, performance and ethics in a single shade, Red 0 proves that luxury beauty doesn’t have to compromise on its values. Luxury, it turns out, looks even better when it has nothing to hide.
