Giant Lobsters take over Borough Yards
‘Lobster Yards’ a new, free public pop-art takeover at Borough Yards, the lifestyle destination situated between the South Bank and Borough Market, London. And what exactly does ‘Lobster Yards’ entail you may ask? Well, essentially, it consists of five over two-meter-high sculptures, an over four-meter-high inflatable and building takeovers of surrealist lobsters. Not your typical Saturday afternoon, ey?
“Art should extend beyond the confines of traditional gallery spaces,” says artist, Philip Colbert, “with ‘Lobster Yards,’ I wanted to bring the colour, humour and imagination of the lobster universe to London, creating a free, open-air cultural experience that invites people to engage with art in a different way.”

The exhibition features five oversized sculptures decked out in whimsical, pop-culture-inspired costumes, plus a colossal seated lobster that’s impossible to miss. A towering lobster snakes around a railway column, while a sprawling vinyl design stretches across a railway arch, blending Colbert’s dreamlike world with the area’s industrial charm.
Through his cheeky lobster motif, a symbol of transformation, absurdity, and resilience, Colbert invites the public to rethink familiar icons. Surreal, fun, and instantly recognisable, the lobsters act as a playful lens on how pop culture and media shape the symbols we know so well.
‘Lobster Yards’ is accessible for all and will be on display throughout Borough Yards from 22 August to 30 October 2025.
