Cardi B is back with her sophomore album ‘AM I THE DRAMA?’
In a dramatic Instagram post last Sunday, she said in a voiceover as glamorous images of herself surrounded by crows rolled by: “Seven years and the time has come. Seven years of love, life and loss. Seven years I gave them grace, but now, I give them hell. I learned power is not given, it’s taken. I’m shedding feathers and no more tears. I’m not back, I’m beyond. I’m not your villain, I’m your tyrant. The time is here. The time is now.”
To kick off this new era, she dropped her first single ‘Outside’, which immediately sparked a wave of excitement online with more than 163M Instagram followers driving momentum that continues to build.
Besides the undeniable anticipation amongst her fanbase, the Bronx born and raised singer has received some backlash after announcing ‘WAP’, the controversial hit, released more than four years ago now as well as ‘Up’, are included on the 23 song tracklist. Fans eager for new music as opposed to reheating the past. Surely WAP has had its day at this point. “I let haters make me not submit WAP for the Grammy’s and at this point I’m giving my fans what they want! These two songs don’t even count for first week sales so what are y’all even crying about???” said Cardi.
She’s not here to appease – she’s here to own the narrative. And by the sound of it, AM I THE DRAMA? – out September 19th – won’t just answer the question. It’ll dare us to ask why we ever questioned her in the first place.
